Christmas Projects at The Little Blue House

The Little Blue House is our local paper crafting studio.  They have beautiful projects you can create every season and I wanted to share some of the neat things I made at the House this season.

Merry Tags for Blocks

As promised, here’s a look at my Christmas blocks.
CIMG3032
I made these with the Cricut Alphabet font (love this font!) and Winter Frolic for the snowman and ornament shapes. These were so easy to make I was done in a few of hours. See my original altered blocks post for more information and a video tutorial on making the blocks.
I cut the letters in Real Dial Size to better control the size proportion to the ornament.  I also cut the shadows so that the letters would stand out.  CIMG3034Then I gave them some texture with an embossing folder.
Here’s a look at a couple of close ups.

I kept it simple this time and only added glitter to the snowman.
So simple and so cute.  These are the times I love my Cricut and love not having to hunt down images online.
Hopefully, my seasonal blocks inspired you this year.  I’m thinking of making a set for the new year and then cycling through the ones I already made this year come spring.
I have a couple more projects to share this season so stay tuned!

Boo! Frame

Today I wanted to share a cute Halloween frame I made.
CIMG2541
This little art piece was based on a project I learned about at the Little Blue House, the float art frames.
My twist was that I used tiny beads(not micro) instead of buttons an I used a Cricut die cut for the tree and grass.  You can use the die cut just as a guideline for your buttons or beads but I wanted to keep the tree base so I attached the die cut to the glass. Then I adhered the beads on top with Glossy Accents.

Here’s a close- up of the beads:

Well, I loved making that one so much that I made another on but used bits of paper to fill in the larger frame.

Try these and come up with your own artwork.  Just think of the possibilities for Christmas. Gift giving ideas too!
Thanks for stopping by!

Happy Spring! - Altered Word Blocks

Happy Spring! I hope you are having some nice weather on you side of the world. We are having some very nice weather for a change. It hasn't rained in a while but at least our flowers are starting to bloom and our seeds are beginning to sprout.

The nice weather gave me an itch to create something for our home so I decided I wanted to make some word blocks. I was originally inspired by the pretty blocks over at the The Little Blue House. Their trick is to make seasonless blocks and then make decorated tags for each season.

This time I made my own tags but I will sign up for future classes with them to make their tags and learn new techniques.

For this project I used DCWV and SEI papers, Spellbinders and Tim Holtz dies, some old KI Memories chipboard letters (I'm sure some of you still have these also), Twinery twine and a canvas butterfly. I made the flowers and the adorable Kite diecut is by 3Birds - so are the other embellishments.

So here is a video of my process. Enjoy!

The Little Blue House - Scrapstashers Anonymous

I'm so excited to share my latest discovery. This wonderful little paper studio opened up right down the street from where I live and they have the most amazing classes! It's called The Little Blue House.

Yesterday I took my first class with them. It's called Scrapstashers Anonymous. Each month they show you a project you can make with your scraps. And what's totally fun is you don't know what you are making until you get there!

Anyway, it was a blast and the time went by too quickly. Once I got home I added the finishing touches and voila! I have this awesome wall art for December. So here's a look at what I made.

Mine came out a lot busier than some of my classmates (which were gorgeous, by the way) but I love it! I couldn't help add more and more and now I just love to stare at it all.

This was so much fun we signed up for the next's month's class. You have to check it out if you are in the area.

Fall Is Almost Here!

Yea! I love the fall season. The crisp cool air and the vibrant colors the season brings. And, I love the wreaths, the pumpkins, the trees and the fall fashions. It's my favorite time of year because it brings us the anticipation of the holidays; Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas.

We got a taste of fall this week in the DFW area (not as cool as up north but it's been such a nice relief after the long hot summer) and I just had to decorate. This not professional decorating -- just things that make me happy.

Did I mention I love Halloween things? They are so cute!

Have a good weekend and I hope this inspires you to do your own fall decorating.
